$1.25 Million Paid to Parents of Minor who Drowned in Hotel Pool
Howard Johnson's International Corporation and their franchisee, Triple E Motel Corp paid 1.25 million to the parents of a 17 year old New York youth who drowned in the hotel's pool while a guest of the Howard Johnson's hotel on Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood Florida the evening of April 17, 2003. The lawsuit alleged among other things that the pool was defectively dangerous and was, at the time, in violation of the State of Florida's Safety Code governing Public Pools. The law suit further alleged the negligence of hotel personnel who gave the boy permission to swim in the pool at night when the pool lacked adequate lighting under Florida law to allow for nighttime swimming.
