$1 Million Settlement for Bicyclist Run Over by Flatbed Truck in Dania, Florida
A 76-year-old father and husband driving his bicycle back from church was seriously injured when the inattentive driver of a loaded flatbed truck coming up behind him never slowed or moved over to allow at least 3 feet as he passed the bicyclist; the driver struck the handlebars of the bike causing the elderly bicyclist to be thrown to the ground and run over by the right rear tandems of the semi, causing catastrophic and permanent injuries.
The injured bicyclist spent four weeks in ICU, surrounded by loved ones and family, recovering from his injuries. The Defense denied liability and blamed the bicyclist’s poor eyesight for the crash. We obtained video footage from a neighboring business, which showed the truck driver had a clear line of sight for the bicyclist before the crash, should have seen him, and avoided the collision.
Despite denying liability for the crash, Defense agreed to pay $ 1 million to the bicyclist before trial.
